Elimite 5% or permethrin is a type of scabicidal agent which is applied topically. It is a pyrethroid which is active against a variety of pests including ticks, fleas, lice and mites.

Elimite 5% is generally prescribed for the treatment of infections caused by Sarcoptes scabiei or scabies. Scabies infections are usually accompanied by edema, erythema and pruritus and Elimite can also temporarily treat these conditions.

Elimite 5% can also be used for other purposes and conditions as determined by your physician.

Important Information about Generic Elimite 5%

Elimite 5% should not be used if you have an allergy to permethrin or to other similar substances.

Elimite 5% belongs to the FDA pregnancy category B, which means that it is generally safe to use during pregnancy. However, make sure to tell your doctor if you are pregnant, are trying to get pregnant or are breastfeeding before using the medication.

Inform your doctor if you have medical conditions which you are receiving treatment for such as asthma and other breathing problems. If you have any, your dose may have to be changed or adjusted.

Avoid getting Elimite in the eyes. If this happens, flush eyes with water immediately.
