Indications for Generic Arcoxia

Arcoxia or etoricoxib is a type of COX-2 or cyclooxygenase-2 specific inhibitors which are also known as Coxibs. It works by reducing pain and inflammation through blocking COX-2, one of the enzymes in the body.

Arcoxia is generally prescribed for the: acute and chronic treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis; management of ankylosing spondylitis; relief of acute pain and chronic musculoskeletal pain; and the treatment of acute gouty arthritis.

Arcoxia may be prescribed by your doctor if you have used other medications for your condition which have not been suitable or effective for you.

Important Information about Generic Arcoxia

Because of the increased risk of strokes and heart attacks, the lowest dose of Arcoxia or etoricoxib is usually given for pain management. It should also not be taken for a longer time than needed. However, in clinical studies that have been conducted, the risk of developing stomach ulcers was lower when Arcoxia was taken than NSAIDs.

Before taking Arcoxia, make sure that you would be informing your doctor of any existing medical condition that you have such as liver disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes or heart disease. Your doctor may require you to come in for visits more often.

Make sure to tell your doctor about any drug allergies that you have or if you are taking other drugs and medications as there are some which could interact with Arcoxia. Some of these drugs would include warfarin, rifampicin, water pills or diuretics, lithium, birth control pills, ACE inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers, hormone replacement therapy drugs and methotrexate.

Arcoxia is not addictive.

Dosage and Administration of Generic Arcoxia

Arcoxia or etoricoxib should only be taken as prescribed by your doctor. The recommended dosage for osteoarthritis or chronic musculoskeletal pain is 60 milligrams a day. For rheumatoid arthritis, the typical Arcoxia dosage is 90 milligrams a day. For ankylosing spondylitis, 90 milligrams is usually the prescribed daily dosage. For gout attacks, 120 milligrams is typically prescribed and should only be taken during the acute painful period. These are recommended dosages; make sure to follow all instructions given by your doctor, including the prescribed dose for your condition.

Take a tablet with plenty of water. Do not break the tablet; instead, swallow it whole. You can take Arcoxia with or without meals.

Arcoxia should be taken around the same time every day to achieve the best results. Doing so could also help you remember to take it.

Avoid missing doctor’s appointments as your doctor may need you to come in to assess your condition or to adjust your dosage.

If you miss a dose, just make sure that you would be taking it as soon as you remember. If the next dose is almost up, then just skip the dose you missed and then take the next scheduled dose.

If you suspect an overdose, then contact your doctor or get emergency medical help right away.
