Loxitane or loxapine is a type of anti-psychotic medication. It works through affecting the chemicals in the brain. Loxitane is indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia. It may also be used for other medical conditions as determined by your doctor.

Important Information about Generic Loxitane

Loxitane or loxapine should not be used for psychotic conditions which are related to dementia. If it used in patients with dementia-related conditions, it could cause sudden death, heart failure or pneumonia.

Loxitane should not be used if you have an allergy to loxapine. Some of the drugs which could interact with Loxitane include atropine or Atreza, belladonna or Donnatal, benztropine or Cogentin, dimenhydrinate or Dramamine, methscopolamine or Pamine, scopolamine or Transderm-Scop, bronchodilators like ipratropium, bladder or urinary medications like darifenacin or Enablex and irritable bowel medications like dicyclomine or Bentyl.

Inform your doctor of any existing medical conditions that you have such as epilepsy or other seizure disorders, glaucoma, a low white blood cell (WBC) count history, urination problems, a history of breast cancer or heart disease.

It is important to tell your doctor if you are pregnant, are trying to get pregnant or are breastfeeding before taking Loxitane.

Dosage and Administration of Generic Loxitane

Loxitane should be taken only as it has been prescribed by the doctor. It should not be taken in a larger amount or for a longer period than what has been recommended. Follow the prescription label. It is typically taken two to four times every day.

Loxitane should be taken with plenty of water.

Your dose may occasionally be changed to ensure that you would be getting the best results.

If your symptoms do not get better of it they worsen, let your doctor know.

Loxitane or loxipane could cause some side effects such as dizziness or drowsiness, puffiness in your face, blurred vision, restlessness, agitation, insomnia and other sleep problems, changes in your menstrual period, breast swelling or discharge, vomiting, nausea, changes in weight, constipation, dry mouth, stuffy nose, itching and mild skin rash.
